Two foreign nationals are in police custody for flouting the stay at home decree and reportedly spitting at police officers, philenews reports.
The incident took place in old Nicosia on Monday afternoon.
A police patrol spotted the two Indian nationals on the street. One was lying on the pavement. They were asked to show they had secured approval to be out, but they refused, it said.
Reinforcements were brought in and both were handcuffed. One resisted and spat at the police officer and was restrained, philenews added.
The two also reportedly spat at police officers as they were being transferred in the police car to the police station.
They are due to appear in court today. The police officers gave statements about the incident and the patrol car was disinfected.
