Nicosia has sent a letter to the United Nations strongly protesting the Turkish Cypriot side’s works aiming to change the status of Taksim football pitch within the UN buffer zone.
This is what Philenews reported on Friday, adding that the letter essentially records the non-consent of the Republic of Cyprus to any actions taken by the regime in breakaway northern Cyprus. This area is occupied by Turkey since a 1974 invasion.
The Foreign Ministry also informs the UN in writing that it did not give any permission, nor was any agreement reached or even any information exchanged, over the works unilaterally carried out there. The funds came from Turkey.
Making it public that the letter was sent came in response to UNFICYP’s spokesperson on Wednesday that reports the status of the buffer zone is changing are wrong and misleading.
Aleem Siddique had also said that the field, which belongs to Cetinkaya football club will only be used for training as had been done in the past.
