The Nicosia Municipality has installed cameras of the latest technology at Kyriakou Matsi and Stasikratous Streets and at Makarios Avenue within the framework of the project “Smart City.”
According to an announcement of the Municipality, the cameras count pedestrians and vehicles, the average velocity, as well as they prevent vandalism in the recently renovated areas of the town.
The project is co-funded by the European Structural and Investment Funds, the Republic of Cyprus, and the Nicosia Municipality. Any data collected has nothing to do with personal data and is used for statistical purposes.
For the time being the cameras are not active since the process of their installation according to the provisions of the Personal Data Commissioner is in process.
