Nicosia court upholds confiscation orders for €372,600 in corruption case

Relevant News

Nicosia Criminal Court on Friday upheld the issue of confiscation orders for a total of €372,600 after finding a former Larnaca mayor, a former Paphos municipal employee and two state officials guilty of corruption regarding two waste management plants — in Paphos and Koshi.

Andreas Louroudjiatis, Demetris Patsalides, Michalis Pantis and Georgios Koullapis had been found guilty on February 7 on charges of conspiracy, bribery, abuse of power and money laundering.

After the conviction, the attorney general asked for confiscation decrees for the illegally acquired sums — €138,000 from Louroudjiatis,  €124,600 from Patsalides, €10,000 from Pantis and €100,000 from Koullapis. All but Pantis had objected but the court ruled against them.

Defence lawyers will argue in mitigation on March 9 after which the court will hand down its sentence.

The defendants have said they will appeal their conviction.

The attorney general’s office has meanwhile appealed the court’s decision to acquit another defendant in the same case.
