The met office has issued a new yellow alert, warning that heavy thunderstorms, probably accompanied by hail will affect the area.
It said that locally, the accumulated precipitation may exceed 50 millimetres in a six hour period.
The warning is in force from 11 am on Thursday — when the previous one expired —Â to 11 am on Friday.
Earlier, the met office said that with low pressure continuing to affect the area, Thursday will be cloudy at intervals with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms which may be accompanied by hail and strong winds.
Temperatures will be 19 C inland and the coasts and 7 C in the mountains.
Tonight will also be cloudy at intervals with scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms.
Friday will start off cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, improving gradually after noon. Temperatures will drop slightly to a little below average for the time of year.
The weekend will see intervals of mainly fine weather and cloud, with isolated showers possible locally, mainly in the mountains.
Temperatures will edge up to around average for the time of year.
