New storage site for Vasiliko Cement plant’s alternative fuels

Relevant News

A year after a fire broke out in the existing storage areas of Vasiliko Cement plant’s alternative fuels the Environment Service has given the green light for a designated new site.

This is in Larnaca District’s Tochni, about halfway between the cities of Larnaca and Limassol, with the designated fenced site situated within an industrial zone, Philenews reports. The block is located within the island’s Vasiliko Energy Centre.

Alternative fuels are considered as a major option to reduce both the dependency on oil and national greenhouse gas emissions.

Tochni Community Council has already sent the message that the area is already overburdened with various developments taking place at the nearby Vasilikos Energy Centre.

That’s why they have asked that all conditions provided within the justification report of the Enviroment Service be implemented.

In addition, it has requested that compensatory measures be provided to the community by the Vasilikos Cement plant.

As for the nearby Zygi community council it said the area is already polluted enough by existing facilities.

And that the planned storage facility will further burden the area.
