New SMS service for domestic violence victims

Relevant News

The Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family (SPAVO) has launched the free SMS helpline 99 98 4042 for domestic violence victims, sponsored by CYTA and supported by the Social Welfare Services.

SPAVO said that the SMS service is in operation 24/7 and is staffed by professional psychologists and social workers who respond in real time by SMS providing Support – Empowerment – Counseling – Information and Networking.

According to SPAVO, the SMS helpline is an innovative and highly important service as it enables the victim to seek help more safely as it allows them to type in case it is dangerous for them to talk.

In addition, it allows to reach out to younger people who are more familiar with this form of communication and also provides access to groups of the population who were previously unable to seek help, like people with hearing impairments.
