New bill to strip army, hunting guns from domestic violence offenders

Relevant News

The Ministry of Justice has submitted a bill to Parliament that if approved would strip gun licences from people with domestic violence convictions.

Under the proposal, hunting gun licences will be automatically revoked upon conviction for domestic violence and offenders will be asked to hand over the hunting guns to police or to transfer the licence to a person that does not reside in their house.

Offenders will be also asked to hand in their army weapons.

The bill also will prohibit the possession of air pistols without a licence and will set stricter criteria for the possession and sale of paintball and air guns.

The new bill will also tighten gun possession rules in a fight against crime.

The regulations provide for the creation of a database where authorities will be able to track the owner of each gun.
