A proposal by Agriculture Minister Kostas Kadis is reversing everything that has been decided and agreed regarding the registration of halloumi in the list of products of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) of the European Union last March, just three months after the implementation of the direction had been implemented and while the checks by Bureau Veritas were in progress.
According to the proposal of the Minister, the 50%+ proportion use of ship/goat milk will be reduced to 20% in an effort to have various types of halloumi that have not been included in the file.
If this proposal is accepted by the parties involved, it will be promoted to the European Commission where barring unforeseen circumstances it will be accepted.
