A network in Nicosia set up an illegal scam against old people, managing to get thousands of euros from them, money that was possibly immediately sent abroad.
In three cases old people were convinced to withdraw money from banks, which they gave to a representative of a supposedly doctor “so that their child would not lose a leg.” Only the day before yesterday, 40 such phone calls were made to get money.
Following efforts by members of the Nicosia CID and coordination with the banks, they managed to stop old people from withdrawing money.
The Police arrested three people, a 25-year-old Pakistani and a couple from Bulgaria who have ben remanded in custody for eight days.
