Relevant News

The two brothers from Syria who pleaded guilty to all charges regarding the murder of two Russian women, Alraeesi Khaiat, 43, and Mariia Gazibagandova, 33, will soon be handed their sentence from the Assizes Court shortly after a modification of the indictment.

During a trial on Monday, the proposal of the two defendants’ lawyer was accepted and the charge of homicide was added to the indictment.

The 33-year-old main suspect pleaded guilty to two charges regarding homicide and was relieved from the charge of premeditated murder.

His 44-yer-old brother was relieved from the charges of accessory after the fact and only pleaded guilty to interfering with the investigation.

The next trial will take place in November and in the meantime the two defendants will remain in the Central Prisons.

In his testimony, the 33-year-old said he shot the two Russian women with a hunting rifle after hearing them talking in a derogatory way about him.

The women were later found buried in the cottage garden belonging to a Nicosia couple.
