Motives behind brutal murder of inmate in central prisons still an enigma

Relevant News

The motives behind last Thursday’s brutal murder in Nicosia Central Prisons of 41-year-old Turkish Cypriot inmate Tansu Cidan remain an enigma, Philenews reported on Tuesday.

Police investigators have already taken statements from eight prisoners who seem to be involved in the disputed incident but there is still no clear evidence as to the motives.

The victim was serving a sentence for drug possession and trafficking.

Cidan’s abused body suggested that the beating was intended to be fatal. He was missing teeth, had fractures, bruises, lacerations and signs of serious injuries all over his body, insiders said.

At the same time, the work of the investigators is considered difficult since in ward 1A where the victim and the suspects were held are all foreigners. This means that in most cases statements are taken with the help of interpreters.

Furthermore, all claimed ignorance of the incident when the arrest warrants were served on Friday.
