Mother of Thanasis says there is delay in getting the report of pathologist

Relevant News

At the orders of the Legal Service the report of pathologist Emmanuel Agapitos appointed by the Law Office to examine the hyoid bone, will be given to the family of Thanasis Nicolaou, the Greek Cypriot soldier whose body was found in 2005. However, Thanasis’s mother says there is delay in getting the report.

It is noted that the family has also requested evidence (photos of the body’s exhumation) as well as the return of the bone, which after the exhumation was sent to Athens for specialized lab tests and was then returned and is being kept in Nicosia.

It is also noted that the report of pathologist Emmanuel Agapitos appointed by the Law Office to examine the bone shows a partial difference compared to that by Greece’s Demetra Karayianni who was appointed by the family.

The Greek professor was absolute in her conclusions that the fracture of the hyoid bone came from hanging or strangulation while he was alive.

The family of Nicolaou had never believed he had committed suicide as was insinuated by army and police authorities at the time of his death.

The soldier was found dead under a bridge while serving his army sentence.

The family believes he was bullied, beaten to death and then thrown off the bridge of Alassa in Nicosia where his body was subsequently found, not far from his parked car.
