Most road victims are foreigners living in Cyprus, tourists or third-country nationals

Eight people lost their lives in road accidents all across Cyprus over the past 16 days while six out of 10 of the victims are either foreigners living on the island or tourists or third-country nationals.

This is what official data shows, as well as the fact that most fatal accidents take place between 4:00pm and 8:00pm.

Philenews also reported on Tuesday that from January 1 till Monday evening a total of  22 people died in 20 traffic accidents. Six of the victims would live if they had worn a seat belt, according to Deputy Chief of Police Demetris Demetriou.

As for Minister of Transport, Yiannis Karousos, he told reporters after a wide-ranging meeting with all departments concerned that additional measures will be taken to prevent the loss of life on roads.

Special protection incentives will be given to motorcyclists who are more vulnerable than car drivers, he added.
