More than 900 calls to 1420 Covid-19 call centre

The ambulance service handled and evaluated more than 9000 calls made to the 1420 call centre set up for people exhibiting potential coronavirus symptoms or who have been in contact with a confirmed case.

The centre has been up and running since March 7.

The ambulance service has also responded with ambulances and specialised crews to take samples from about 800 members of the public with mobility problems or other special circumstances.

In addition, from 3625 emergency calls, 950 were for individuals with Covid-19 symptoms.

And 446 individuals were transferred from their homes to public hospitals pending test results and confirmed cases were transferred from and to the referral hospital at Paralimni.
