Relevant News

One medical professional from the Paphos Hospital and four from the Famagusta referral hospital are among the 58 new Covid-19 cases announced on Wednesday, CNA reports.

The Paphos case is a female doctor that had been in isolation for many days, whose husband is also a doctor. He was among the first to have tested positive to the virus and had received treatment at the Famagusta referral hospital.

Meanwhile, head of the Paphos Hospital Dr Iosif Moutiris said that the new short-term hospitalisation centre for Covid-19 at the hospital will begin operations this Saturday.

The four new cases found at the Famagusta referral hospital are from the Radiology department.

According to CNA, tracing of the contacts of the four took place this morning, with samples taken from about 20 of the referral hospital’s staff.

The radiation department has since been disinfected and within a few hours it resumed operations with the remaining staff.

Separately, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou told state radio on Thursday morning that of those in quarantine that returned from abroad, two have been found positive to the virus so far.

He also said that there is a problem with Paphos and Aradippou where a lot of cases have been found, an issue which will be discussed today with the committee of experts advising the Ministry.
