KEPA: More and more families in coastal Famagusta region struggling with rising costs

Relevant News

Not even in 2013 when unemployment in Cyprus had sky-rocketed did we have so many struggling families asking for help, said deputy head of KEPA Agios Christoforos non-governmental charity organization in Paralimni.

KEPA these days provides food and ‘love baskets’ to dozens more of impoverished families in the district, Kiki Siga also told Philenews.

Extreme price rises and the winter closure of tourist businesses in the coastal area have led to an unprecedented number of families needing daily help she also said.

Phone calls from people in need are now daily and another 100 families have been recently added to the Home’s already long list.

“A while ago we were giving 150 portions of food every day, now these have risen to 250 and we believe the number will increase further,” she added.

“The number of people who receive monthly ‘love baskets’ has also increased. Just before Christmas we will hand such baskets to 350 families.  It is the highest number we ever had to give out.,” she also said.
