MoH: ‘Very low chances the incident is Coronavirus’

Relevant News

The Ministry of Health said that the possibility a case with similar symptoms to Coronavirus reported in Cyprus last night to be confirmed as such is very low.

The Medical Services said that the 22-year-old Chinese residing in Cyprus is in “very good condition” as his latest tests have shown, and he has not presented fever today.

“The possibility that it’s Coronavirus is very low,” the Ministry emphasised.

The man flew out of Beijing on January 18, then travelled to nearby Egypt, and returned to Cyprus on Friday January 31.

Although the 22-year-old was not in Wuhan during his trip, which was the only verified affected area at the time, the Ministry decided to look into the incident anyway and conduct the necessary tests.

The Ministry has also confirmed that in addition to the 22-year-old, a relative of his has also been quarantined at home as a precaution.

In a press conference today, the Ministry attributed the delay in making a public announcement on the suspected incident to the fact that it takes time to set up a new method of tracing the virus, and assured that starting Monday, Medical Services will be ready to conduct the relevant tests in Cyprus.
