Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou has offered to supply pharmacies with one million masks from government stocks to cover an acute shortage amid high demand during the first stage of the easing of the lockdown.
The minister has offered to supply the masks at the price at which they were purchased and consultations are underway with the Pharmacists Association.
Earlier today, the president of the Pharmacists Association Eleni Piera spoke of a shortage of masks with the first stage of the easing of the lockdown and stressed it was essential that masks be brought to Cyprus and made available on the market.
With the first stage of easing of the lockdown, employees in shops who come into contact with the public are required by decree to wear them.
Their use is not mandatory for the general public, but has been recommended by health authorities when entering places frequented by a lot of people.
The minister also gave instructions for an additional 150,000 masks to be sent to the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce, 100,000 to the Employers and Industrialists Federation and 50,000 to Povek (small shopkeepers association) to be distributed among businesses.
