Relevant News

On Thursday, Agriculture Minister Kostas Kadis had a meeting with Irene Choudetsanaki, President of the Association of European Regions for Products of Origin (AREPO) and discussed the promotion and protection of products which are safeguarded at the level of the European Union as Geographical Indications.

According to a bulletin, the target of the AREPO network is to promote and defend the interests of producers and consumers of European regions involved in the valorization of quality food products.

During the discussion the possibility of Cyprus registering as a full member of the AREPO network was discussed, as well as way in which the strictures and know-how of the network could contribute to the preparation of application to register more Cypriot products in the list of Geographical Indications.

Following the registration of Halloumi / Hellim as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product another three excellent products of Cyprus have been registered as products of EU-Protected Geographical Indications (PGIs): Lountza, Choiromeri and sausage of Pitsilia.
