Met Office issues thunderstorm warning for tomorrow

The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for tomorrow.

In a yellow alert, it said that isolated heavy thunderstorms are expected to affect the area. “In these storms the rain intensity may exceed 55 millimetres per hour,” it added.

The warning is in force from 8 am to 6 pm on Friday.

“Be aware that thunderstorms may occur. Take extra care in exposed areas, like mountains, forest and open terrain. Disruption to outdoor activities is possible,” it added.

Moreover in its afternoon weather forecast, the Met office said that low pressure is affecting the area and a low pressure system is expected from tomorrow.

Tonight will be mainly cloudy with scattered showers and snow or sleet in the higher Troodos peaks. Temperatures will fall to 9 C inland, around 12 C on the coasts and 1 C in the higher Troodos peaks where there will be frost.

Friday will be mainly cloudy with rain and local thunderstorms as well as the possibility of snow in the higher Troodos peaks. Temperatures will be round 13 C inland, around 14 C on the coasts and 2 C in the mountains.

Tomorrow night will be initially mainly cloudy with rain and local thunderstoms and the possibility of snow in the higher Troodos peaks but will quickly improve.

On Saturday and Sunday there will initially be increased cloud becoming mainly cloudy with scattered showers and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Monday will be mainly fine with increased cloud at intervals.

Temperatures will fall on Friday and edge up on Saturday remaining at the same levels on Sunday at a little below the seasonal average.

Temperatures at 2 pm today where Nicosia 20 C, Larnaca Airport 18 C, Paphos Airport 19 C, Frenaros 19 C, Prodromos 7 C and Polis Chrysochous 19 C.
