A 51-year-old man is in custody in connection with Wednesday’s large fire between the villages of Choirokitia and Vavla, Philenews reported on Thursday citing police sources.
The blaze which broke out around 2 pm was brought under control around 7:20 pm.
It appears that the fire started from the use of power tools in dry grass and low wild vegetation area in Tochni and spread fast in the nearby villages.
Three helicopters and two firefighting aircraft as well as a large number of vehicles from the Fire Service and the EMAK were used to extinguish the fire.
Livestock farms and residences were protected by the firefighting forces.
