A 37 year old man from Nicosia was arrested after he drove into the back of another vehicle on Makarios Avenue early on Tuesday and then fled.
When police caught up with him, he was found to be more than four times over the limit.
Police said that at around 1.10 am, a car driven by the 37 year old hit the back of a car driven by a 23 year old woman, leading to three other collisions.
Police said the car of the 23 year old woman hit the car in front of hers, driven by a 21 year old and that car hit the car ahead driven by a 19 year old.
The 37 year old abandoned the scene of the accident but was found by police and underwent a breathalyser test with a final reading of 94 mg — more than four times the legal limit of 22 mg.
He was arrested as Nicosia police continue their inquiries.
