A 37-year-old Greek Cypriot man from Nicosia is remanded in custody in connection with an Asian woman’s allegations she had been raped, police said on Tuesday.
He is facing criminal charges including rape, trafficking of adult human beings with intention to sexually exploit them and obscene acts.
The first two charges, according to the penal code of Cyprus, provide for life imprisonment and 25 years in prison, respectively.
The detained man had carried out obscene acts against the woman only about a month after her employment – specifically last March. She reported to police that she was raped in April.
