A 39 year old man from Limassol is under arrest as police investigate a case of loan sharking and extortion.
His arrest follows a complaint by a 53 year old woman that she had borrowed €2000 from the suspect in 2014 on the agreement that she would repay it in a month.
She failed to do so, and the sum kept increasing because of interest. She said that at times the 39 year old threatened her.
By August 2018, the woman owed €92,000 and she issued a cheque to that amount. The suspect deposited the cheque but it bounced and he sued her.
Limassol police are investigating.
