A 34 year old man is under arrest in Limassol on suspicion of assaulting his own mother and causing her grievous bodily harm.
Police said that the man was a passenger in a car driven by his mother yesterday afternoon when he allegedly asked her to stop, got out, stripped to his underclothes and then opened the driver’s door and started hitting his mother in the face with a penknife.
He then allegedly pulled her out of the car and started hitting and kicking her on the head.
His stepfather came to the spot and tried to stop him, but the suspect allegedly drew a knife and then fled in his stepfather’s car. He was spotted by police about one and a half hours later and arrested.
The mother was taken to a private hospital where she was diagnosed with injuries to the eye as well as abrasions on the neck and face, possibly from a sharp instrument, and multiple bruises on the head. She has been admitted for treatment.
Police secured an arrest warrant for injury, grievous bodily harm and domestic violence and he is in custody.
