Police arrested on Saturday a 56-year-old man for illegal import of large quantities of tobacco products after a warehouse in Limassol was placed under surveillance.
Acting on a tip-off, police were watching the warehouse and stormed in when the 56-year-old arrived.
The Limassol Customs Department was immediately notified and its officers who arrived at the scene counted 736 cigarette packs, 225 boxes of tobacco sticks, 137 kilos of tobacco and 75.5 kilos of shisha tobacco.
It is estimated that the items arrived in Cyprus illegally through the occupied areas.
The 56-year-old was arrested and detained to facilitate police investigations.
