The farmers market on Eolou Street in Limassol resumed operations on Saturday following the easing of Coronavirus measures by the government, with Limassol Mayor Nicos Nicolaides saying he was pleased to witness adherence to hygiene measures after visiting the market in person this morning.

“There is order, safety, calm, people are doing their shopping. These are unprecedented circumstances and it takes a lot of effort for people and merchants to get used to the fact that these are the circumstances we need to live under for a certain period,” Nicolaides said.

The Mayor mentioned that in the past week the Municipality’s staff worked on planning the reopening of the market.

He said that the municipal staff fenced off and disinfected the area and reached out to producers thoroughly informing them on the new circumstances they need to work under.

He added that producers worked together with the municipality to provide consumers with the proper service and that people understood the restrictive measures and did their shopping at the market without any problems.

Nicolaides finally mentioned that members of the police and the Labour Inspection Department checked the premises in the morning and he noted that customers were in compliance.
