Limassol authorities focus on homeless irregular migrants flooding the city

Relevant News

Limassol authorities on Tuesday exchanged views on how to solve the alarming problem of irregular migrants found living under the docks of the pier or outdoors in the city centre.

The affluent coastal city’s Municipality will join forces with all services involved to take coordinated action so as to mitigate the problem, mayor Nicos Nicolaides told Philenews.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various government agencies such as the Aliens and Immigration Service, Social Welfare Services, Labour Office, Asylum Service and various officials of the Municipality.

Nicolaides also said that it was the first of many meetings to take place and clarified that most of the homeless come from Pournara reception centre in the outskirts of Nicosia.

Declaring false data as a place of residence they stay in Limassol – either in open air spaces creating a nuisance or in inappropriate premises and under very inappropriate conditions, he added.
