Limassol: 45 year old arrested for drunk driving, abandoning scene of accident

Relevant News

Limassol police have arrested a 45 year old man who while driving under the influence of alcohol, was involved in a collision on Eleftheria’s Street in Limassol and then abandoned the scene of the accident, only to be detained by members of the public.

Police said that at around 5 pm on Sunday under conditions which are being investigated, the car driven by the 45 year old swerved right and collided sideways with a car driven by a 28 year old. Both cars sustained damage, however the 45 year old drove off.

Other drivers who witnessed the accident pursued the 45 year old and managed to stop and detain him until police arrived.

He tested positive in an alco-test and was taken to the police station. The result of the second test was 102 mg%, more than 11 times the 9 mg% legal limit as he holds only a learner’s licence.

The man was found to be driving without being accompanied by an experienced driver, without insurance, MOT or road tax while the car had been declared immobilised in April last year.

There were no injuries.
