Lightning strike leaves 28 villages in the occupied north without power

Relevant News

A lightning bolt that struck an electricity substation in Lefkonoiko has left 28 villages in the occupied north without power, Turkish Cypriot media reported on Thursday.

“Electricity authority” chief Tulug Kalyoncu said that he cannot say when supply will be restored as the damage inflicted to the substation is “very serious.”

According to Kalyoncu, 25 of the affected villages are in Famagusta and three in Trikomo.

Lefkonoiko “mayor” Hasan Oztas said that the current transformer in the substation has “blown up” and that direct response by the “officials” limited the scale of the damage.
