Larnaca taxi office offers rides to Turkish-occupied north

A taxi office in Larnaca is offering rides to Tymbou (Ercan) airport and Kyrenia in the Turkish-occupied north, Phileleftheros reported.

The Larnaca-Tymbou route costs €65 during the day. The night-time fare is €75. The ride to Kyrenia is €90 during the day and €100 at night..

According to Phileleftheros, both routes pass through Pergamos checkpoint in Pyla.

The service is mainly used by Greek Cypriots and foreigners who want to travel to Germany or the UK through Turkey, as the tickets are cheaper, Phileleftheros says.

It is also used by tourists who come to Cyprus via Larnaca but spend their holidays in the Turkish-occupied north.

According to Statistical Service figures, 10% of tourist arrivals do not declare a place of residence and a significant number of these are believed to end up in the Turkish-occupied north.
