Larnaca Holy Spirit day celebrations cancelled

Relevant News

Larnaca has cancelled all events for Holy Spirit day (Kataklysmos) that will be celebrated on June 8.

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras told CNA that the decision was made official during a remote meeting of the Municipal Council on Wednesday.

“The decision to cancel the events was a one-way street for Larnaca Municipality as this is the biggest celebration of the city with more than 300,000 visitors every year.

“However, following the government’s decisions for the gradual lifting of lockdown restrictions, cancelling the Holy Spirit celebrations also became legally compulsory as the relaunch of open events and festivals falls within Phase Four of the exit to begin on July 14,” Vyras said.

He added that the Municipal Council also decided to support the city’s cultural professionals and the arts by earmarking funds to hold cultural events upon the full lifting of restrictions.
