Larnaca: Citizens lobby for dog park

Relevant News

A group of Larnaca residents have written to Larnaca Municipality urging local authorities not to renege on a decision to create a dog park on Diogenous street.

In their letter, the residents said that most public parks in Larnaca were now prohibited to dogs.

“As residents of the town who pay taxes and dog licences and who in theory have the same rights as other citizens, we urge you not to change your initial decision to create a dog park on Diogenous street,” they said.

“You have prohibited entry to our four legged friends to nearly all the common areas in the town, a  town which wants to call itself European but which unfortunately is not European in its treatment of dogs and their owners,” they said.

They added that the specific site was suitable. Assigning a remote and neglected area would be wrong they added.

Philenews contacted Larnmaca Municipality which said no decision had been taken regarding the piece of land on Diogenous street.

It added that a possible option for a dog park was in the Ayios Lazaros area.

A meeting is expected to be held in the next few days to discuss the issue, the site added.
