Larnaca bus drivers back at work

Relevant News

Larnaca bus drivers have ended their strike and are back at work after reaching agreement with the bus company Zenon.

The agreement follows talks with the company which undertook to pay the rest of their June salaries as well as the two days the employees had been on strike because the strike was not their responsibility, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

A time plan was also agreed for the company to pay outstanding dues to the provident fund and other funds.

Employees had gone on strike on Monday in protest at the non-payment of their June salaries. The company then paid half the salary, but employees remained on strike saying that they would not go back to work until they had received all their pay.

A series of meetings were held on Wednesday, with employees coming to Nicosia to the Transport Ministry and Zenon shareholders holding a crucial meeting.

This is not the first time that employees have gone on strike over non-payment of salaries with the company arguing that it has outstanding dues from the state, something denied by the Transport Ministry.
