Kurdish political refugee wanted by Germany on terrorism-related charges arrested at Larnaca airport

A 48-year-old Kurdish man wanted by German authorities on terrorism-related charges was arrested on Thursday at Larnaca Airport.

The recognized political refugee will be brought before a Larnaca district court for a remand order withing the day, police also said.

Insiders said Efstathios Efstathiou – the lawyer who undertook the case – will ask the German authorities to justify the request for his extradition.

And that his client is not remanded in custody but released on parole instead.

In addition, a request will be made for the essential documents sent by the Germans for the purpose of his extradition which is to be translated into his mother tongue as well.

The charges he is facing are punishable by up to 10 years in  prison, namely that he had participated in a terrorist organisation.
