The Commission for the Protection of Competition fined Kouklia Community Council for charging too much for water in the tourist areas of Aphrodite Hills area and Ha Potami.
After it received a complaint in 2015, the Commission analysed Kouklia Community Council’s financial data and found that it had overcharged for water in the aforementioned tourist areas in the years of 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Specifically, it charged these areas 32% more for water in 2013, 43% more in 2014 and 39% more in 2015 compared to other areas in Kouklia.
“The Community Council of Kouklia has a dominant position in the water supply for household use … which it abused by imposing unfair prices,” the Commission said and ordered Kouklia to pay €78,889.28.
