Meanwhile Kasoulides will have on January 24 a first meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, in Brussels, where the FM will travel to participate in a Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

The meeting between Kasoulides and Borrell will take place on the occasion of the assumption of his duties as Cyprus Foreign Minister. Kasoulides referred to these forthcoming meetings during an interview he gave on Thursday evening to CyBC.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
