Jail for man who defrauded individuals claiming to be adviser to president

Larnaca district court has jailed a 61 year old man who defrauded individuals, claiming  he was an advisor to the president and could secure appointments and other favours.

According to Politis newspaper, the man would claim he was a member of the ‘secret service’ working at the Presidential Palace, or an advisor to President Nicos Anastasiades himself.

He promised a cancer patient he could arrange for her to be sent abroad for treatment and managed to defraud her out of  €10,000.

In another case, while undergoing treatment at Larnaca Hospital he maneged to trick the nurse and her husband out of €5,000 so that their daughter could find a job in the public sector.

The offences were committed between 2016 and 2019. The defendant pleaded guilty and was jailed for two years.
