Limassol Municipality is carrying out investigations into how rare birds and animals at the town’s state zoo were found dead and dumped at the closed down Vati landfill over the weekend.
This is what Philenews reported on Monday, adding that among the dead are rare owls and a kangaroo.
“An investigative officer has already been appointed and tasked with looking into the circumstances behind the dreadful incident,” an insider told Philenews.
The issue came to the fore on Saturday after a concerned citizen informed the island’s Party for Animals.
Horrible pictures with dead animals in black garbage bags at Vati landfill were published in social media.
All officers responsible for the zoo will be investigated along with state veterinarians who will ask to justify the dumping procedures followed, the insider also said.
