Labour inspectors on Wednesday closed seven construction sites and issued four out of court fines for violations of decrees to contain the spread of coronavirus.
They carried out 706 checks, of which 603 of shops where they found compliance was satisfactory although there were cases of lack of signage particularly on the floor and of employees wearing face guards rather than masks.
The inspectors also checked 103 building sites, where they found moderate compliance but some did not have the required sanitary facilities.
Seven were ordered to suspend operation immediately — five in Nicosia, one in Paphos and one in Famagusta. Four out of court fines were issued to workers at four building sites in Nicosia.
Since May 4 when checks started, inspectors have carried out 4990 checks on shops and 871 on constructions sites where they suspended the operation of 48 and issued out of court fines to 10 workers.
Inspections will continue.
