Police are investigating the premeditated murder of a 41-year-old man who was found dead in his cell on Thursday night in the Nicosia Central Prison.
According to an announcement by the Central Prison, Tansu Cidan, a Turkish Cypriot was found unconscious in his cell by other inmates around 09:55 pm on Thursday.
Prison staff and medical personnel arrived at the location to provide first aid, however, despite their efforts, the man did not gain consciousness and was later declared dead.
Police said that the man had multiple bruises and injuries on his body.
The exact cause of death is expected to be established during a post-mortem autopsy this afternoon.
The 41-year-old was serving a long-term sentence, the Central Prison noted.
Police are continuing the investigation.
