Idahot+ meeting in Limassol assesses progress of LGBTI+ rights

Relevant News

Idahot+, the main annual European event where governments and key stakeholders meet to assess the progress of LGBTI+ rights and set new goals opened in Limassol on Thursday.

The two-day forum is co-hosted by the Cyprus and UK governments, with the support of the Council of Europe’s SOGI Unit to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia and to strengthen European cooperation on SOGIESC Equality policies.

It brought together European policymakers, activists and civil society organisations to take collective action to advance the rights of LGBT people across Europe.

In the high-level discussion in the context of Ukraine’s war, House Speaker Annita Demetriou and EU Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli has joined other representatives to examine Europe’s reaction to the challenges raised to common European values, and how these affect LGBTI+ people on the continent.

The roles of different sectors in ending conversion therapy, the benefits of LGBT+ inclusion in businesses and ways to tackle gender attacks are also on the forum’s agenda.

During the forum, there will be a screening of The Hunt, Cyprus’ first short film addressing homophobia and patriarchy.
