Public hospitals, in preparation for a possible large intake of coronavirus patients requiring intensive care in the next few days, are stepping up coordination, philenews reports.
It said that a teleconference was held last night between Health Ministry officials, the state health services organisation (Okipi) and the heads of public hospitals.
The main issue was the organisation of the public health clinics, the management of suspect Covid-19 cases as well as the operation of the ICUs and the increased care units.
Acting head of Paphos Hospital Dr Iosif Moutiris said that the joint preparation was necessary given an anticipated spike in the number of patients requiring intensive care.
As regards Paphos Hospital, he said that a special clinic for suspect cases and the ICU will operate tomorrow, with the remaining clinics back in operation in stages.
The hospital has been in near lock down after more than a dozen health professionals tested positive for coronavirus.
Paphos accounts for 27% of all the known coronavirus cases in Cyprus, equally high as the most populated district of Nicosia, mostly as a result of the hospital cluster.
Three more cases were recorded at the hospital yesterday, concerning a doctor, a patient and a worker.
The patient had gone to a private hospital for tests last week. He then went to Nicosia for a heart operation and is in the ICU of Nicosia Hospital after he tested positive for coronavirus there, philenews reported.
