Hospitals increase bed capacity as new cases of covid are on alarming rise

Relevant News

Health professionals struggling to cope with the rising number of admissions of patients with coronavirus on Wednesday called on the public to be vigilant with measures aiming to curb the spread.

The Public Health Services Organisation (Okypy) has sent the message that covid wards in all hospitals are almost 100% full on a daily basis, Philenews reports.

And that that the alarming outbreak of new cases recorded over the past few days will inevitably lead to a large increase in the number of patients who will need treatment in the near future.

Beds for patients with coronavirus have been operating for days in all district hospitals of Cyprus as well as in the specialised Makarios Hospital in Nicosia.

At the same time, the reference hospital for coronavirus in Famagusta is at a 100% capacity.

Okypy’s spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said around 280 patients with coronavirus are treated daily in the hospitals. Of them, 30-35 are intubated in Intensive Care Units.

Authorities announced a total of 843 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours out of 53,024 PCR and rapid antigen tests carried out. This takes confirmed infections to 58,865.
