Britain’s High Commissioner in Cyprus Irfan Siddiq paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, a day after the monarch’s passing.
“The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is a moment of profound loss and sorrow for the people of the United Kingdom and many others throughout the world, including in Cyprus. I am deeply grateful to President Anastasiades for his heartfelt message of condolence,” Siddiq wrote on Twitter.
He also thanked Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar for offering his condolences.

Flags in the UK Commission’s building in Nicosia will fly at half-mast, the Commission announced.
The new administrator at the Sovereign Base Areas, Air Vice Marshal Peter Squires also offered his condolences for the Queen’s death.
In a written statement he said: “It is with enormous sadness that we mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her extraordinary life was dedicated to serving all the people of the Commonwealth and she was an inspiration to so many.”

Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, ending a 70-year-long reign. Her son Charles has succeeded her to the throne. He will be known as King Charles III.
