The Health Ministry on Monday appealed for blood donations saying that because of the seasonal viruses there has been a lower turnout among donors, and as a result a higher need for blood of all groups.
“The Blood Centre of the Health Ministry is calling on regular and new blood donors who do not face any health problems to give blood at the blood donation centres in all the districts or at the blood donations organised in cooperation with various bodies and organisations,” it said.
About 9% of the population in Cyprus are registered blood donors, one of the highest in the world. Cyprus is one of the 62 countries worldwide which covers all of its blood needs with 100% voluntary donations.
