Government employment in Cyprus in October increased by 37 persons (0.1%) in comparison to the corresponding month in 2019 reaching a total of 52,513, according to official statistics.
Permanent staff members decreased by 946 (-3.4%), from 27,912 to 26,966, while contract employees increased by 1.119 persons (7.0%). They now number 17,090 persons compared to 15.,971 in October last year.
At the same time, an increase is recorded in education sector staff (1.8%), and a decrease in security forces employees (-0.5%) while those in civil service have remained the same.
In all three categories of permanent staff there is a decrease with the highest recorded in civil service (-3.9%).
On the contrary, in all three categories of contract staff there is an increase with the highest recorded in the education sector (14.4%).
