A French Navy exercise in Cyprus began at 10 am and will end at 5pm on Monday, according to a Navtex issued by the Republic.
At the same time, a ‘war’ of issued Navtex warnings is taking place between Cyprus and Turkey over the past 24 hours in connection with BILIM 2 Research/Survey vessel.
Cyprus has denounced the Turkish Navtex for scientific research which, among other areas, takes place within part of the island’s continental shelf.
Ankara issued an anti-Navtex in which it disputed the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus.
BILIM 2 has been spotted north of Cyprus, where the Turkish-held village of Yiallousa is, over the past couple of days.
