Fourteen underage mothers now under Welfare Service supervision

Relevant News

The Social Welfare Service in Cyprus is currently keeping an eye on 14 underage mothers, Philenews reported on Monday citing Labour Minister Zeta Emilianidou.

And there are probably more minors who have embraced motherhood but whose cases do not justify intervention by the Service, Emilianidou added.

The Minister was responding to a written question by Opposition Akel MP Skevi Koukouma.

“Regarding minor mothers from families under the care of the Social Welfare Services or whose family is monitored by the Social Welfare Service, currently the Service works with a total of 14,” the Minister specifically said.

“Two of the underage mothers (17.5 and 17 years old respectively) are under the legal care of the Director of Social Welfare Services,” she added.

Only six underage mothers were under the supervision of the Service in 2019, added the report.
